Urkaine Project
Davis Sunset Rotary is proud to support humanitarian efforts in Uman, Ukraine — an official sister city of Davis. Since the beginning of the war, our club has formed a direct and meaningful partnership with the people of Uman, providing both immediate relief and ongoing support.
Former club president Brett Lee has traveled to Ukraine five times since the war began, representing the Davis community and working closely with local officials — including the Mayor of Uman — to coordinate aid and build trust.
A powerful symbol of this connection can be found in Uman’s Central Square, where signs proudly display the names of all of Uman’s sister cities — including Davis, California, USA. This public display honors the international friendships that sustain the city in difficult times.
One of the most impactful initiatives has been the purchase and delivery of electricity generators. With power outages caused by Russian bombings affecting homes and essential services, Davis Sunset Rotary stepped in. Through generous donations from the Davis community, and with the hands-on leadership of Brett Lee, generators were delivered directly to Uman to power hospitals, shelters, and community centers.
In the second photo, the Head of Social Services in Uman receives these life-saving generators — a moment of solidarity made possible by Rotary and the people of Davis.
The people of Uman have expressed deep gratitude for this support. In a time of darkness — both literal and symbolic — our help has brought light, power, and hope.
This effort reflects Rotary’s core mission: to create lasting change, across the globe and in our own communities.
Please don’t hesitate to donate to help us to continue this vital work!

We’ve collected books and sent them to Haiti to fill the bookshelves of their newly constructed library.
Palliative Care for Uganda
With the funds provided by the Sunset Rotary Club of Davis, they were able to pilot the Digital Curriculum for Palliative Care Education in Rural Uganda to evaluate the efficacy of the program in improving understanding of palliative care of chronically and seriously ill patients there.
